Saint Augustine Photo Inspiration Locations And Tips

Saint Augustine is charming, historic, and so much fun for engagement photos. Think cobblestone streets, dreamy architecture, river views, and beaches that feel tucked away. Below are my best tips to help you plan a session that feels relaxed, beautiful, and true to you.

Tips, timing, and my favorite photo locations (from a local photographer who’s always down for an adventure).

Best Locations for Engagement Photos in Saint Augustine

Charming Streets (Colors, Textures, and Stories) If you're enchanted by vibrant streets, stunning architecture, and unique corners, we can explore these areas together and allow the session to develop organically. Ideal for: candid engagement sessions and couples looking for a fun, unposed experience. Sharing a snack or drink during the shoot adds to the enjoyment! Note: This approach is particularly delightful in cooler months or quieter seasons, as the streets can get quite busy, especially during special events.

Bridge of Lions + Downtown Walk The Bridge of Lions is one of the most important landmarks in Saint Augustine, and it gives you so much variety nearby: The bridge entrance + surrounding viewpoints The boardwalk area A fun walk into downtown streets and architecture Best for: a mix of iconic + candid walking moments Bonus: we can make it a “date-style” session: stroll, talk, and explore.

Castillo de San Marcos (Fort + River Views) This spot is iconic for a reason. You get: Historic architecture Beautiful light on the stone walls Views right by the Matanzas River Best for: classic, timeless, historic backgrounds Check this engagement session if you want to see more.

Saint Augustine Beaches (Soft Sand + Hidden Entrances) Saint Augustine Beach has wide stretches of sand and quieter access points where we can find a little privacy to be ridiculously in love without thinking about it. Best for: romantic, airy beach photos barefoot and playful vibes sunset sessions with soft light

Lightner Museum (Courtyards + Historic Luxury) One of my favorite locations for couples who want something elegant and timeless. The outside areas include: beautiful courtyards (front and back) classic architecture gorgeous framing for romantic portraits If you want photos inside, it can be absolutely worth it for that iconic look, just know we may need to follow any location rules and the fees. If you love it and feel ready, here is the link to the permit.

Flagler College (Architecture + Courtyard Charm) Flagler College is stunning and right across from the Lightner Museum. You’ll find: warm orange brick greenery and a courtyard fountain hallways with beautiful light tons of framing opportunities for artistic compositions Here is a link to see more.

The Fountain of Youth (The Trees!) Stunning arch made of oak trees that makes it feel like we are in the movies! A quick stop here for a dreamy romantic feel.

Tips for a fun experience

Bridge of Lions Saint Augustine Engagement Session

1. Choose the Best Season (and Dress Smart) Florida summers are long, hot, humid, and sweaty. If you can, book your engagement session during the cooler months. If you’re planning in warmer months, no worries, just come prepared with breathable fabrics, a face towel, yes, that hot, and a second outfit is always welcome. Best months for Saint Augustine engagement photos: February – April (cooler + bright, fresh vibes) September – November (golden light + slightly quieter feel) Keep blotting papers or a small towel in your bag

2. Time of day matters (A Lot) I always recommend scheduling your engagement session early in the morning or late in the afternoon. These times usually have: Less traffic and fewer crowds A more relaxed vibe (especially around restaurants, streets, and school zones) More flattering light for photos. It is worth getting up early and staying up late.

3. Expect a little weather (It’s Florida!) Rain can pop up unexpectedly, but it doesn’t have to ruin your session. A quick shower can actually make for romantic, cinematic photos, and I always come prepared with the ponchos and equipment cover. If you’re open to a little adventure, weather moments can turn into some of the most memorable images and fun memories.

4. Watch for busy seasons + events Saint Augustine gets very crowded at certain times, especially during the Nights of Lights through the holiday season. If you love the festive energy, that season can be magical. Springs can be hectic, too.

5. Parking can be tricky or pricey Parking in Saint Augustine can be challenging because it’s such a popular destination, but there are free and paid options throughout the area. Don’t stress—I’ll help guide you on where to park, where to meet, and how to keep the session smooth.
